24 Hour Gate Operations (Updated 11-2-2025)

24 Hour Gate Operations Resume:
November 10th 2025

New Access Systems Coming Soon

Existing Remotes Will Continue Operations Indefinitely

At the recent MLAA Board Meeting, the board decided to revert the gate to its original 24/7 operation. This decision was made due to several compelling reasons:

1. Increased Activity in the Hangar Area: The proximity of active taxiways and the runway to Cessna Drive has led to safety concerns.

2. Incidents of Vehicle Misuse: There have been multiple instances of vehicles driving on Taxiway Alpha and the Runway, posing a significant safety risk to Aircraft.

3. Vandalism and Attempted Break-Ins: Recent incidents of attempted break-ins and vandalism of aircraft have raised concerns about the security of the hangar area.

Cessna Drive is a private road owned by the MLAA. The primary objective of this change is not to restrict access to any private hangar properties but to limit access to legitimate users with a need to be on and around  the airport and address the concerns above.

Over the coming months, we will be upgrading the gate controller to enable it to read RFID decals affixed to the windshields of vehicles, similar to those used on Colorado toll roads. Additionally, a call system will be implemented to facilitate communication with airport properties. The ultimate goal of these upgrades is to simplify access for property owners and tenants while simultaneously restricting general access. We have already contacted regular deliveries companies  (FedEx, UPS, and Amazon) to ensure their continued access and providing them with safety training regarding active taxiways and information to update their delivery maps.

Upon the completion of the system upgrades, we will provide detailed information on the availability of RFID decals at a nominal cost. We currently have a limited stock of more expensive remote controls that can be utilized immediately. However there will be no access changes until mid 2026. Please do not hesitate to contact a board member if you have feedback so we can ensure a smooth transition to the 24/7 operation that the FAA intended when the gate was initially installed from the current night time only operation.
